Kendrick Lamar – “Backseat Freestyle” (Music Video) [WATCH]

Kendrick Lamar has dropped his first visual after the release of good kid, m.A.A.d city. The black and white toning on the video depicts Kendrick’s image, from rags to riches, K. Dot shows his story. The video starts in Paris, France, he has been in Europe multiple times just before and after the album release for promo purposes. Spotted close to the Eiffel Tower, Kendrick is in a city that he would never have imagined to be standing in when he was a teenager growing up in Compton, California. When the video first switches to being in Compton, there is resemblance of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s “N***gas In Paris” as the production shows images mirroring, so obviously Kendrick has been taking note of other popular visuals. But as Kendrick Lamar is shown walking through Compton, his vocals scream “Kendrick have a dream”, showing his prestige in his city, he had a dream and now he is living it. And as he raps his song in a family home, onlookers will get the feel of how close-knit his family was and how they were an influence to his fight and dream. Compton is shown to the fans, throughout good kid, m.A.A.d city, they heard the city, now they get to see it and feel it. In the middle of the video, the skit that is featured throughout the album about his Dad ‘tripping off his dominoes’ and commanding Kendrick to bring his his “motherf**kin’ dominoes”, maybe it makes more sense to the fans now. Then comes Sherane, very well presented and directed too. Kendrick almost shows off Sherane, fans question the girl, want to know who she is and what happened between the two – here, you see. The music is playing, Kendrick is standing on the right of the low-rider as the woman labelled ‘Sherane’ is doing nothing but twerking and bouncing her booty to the camera; well played, Kendrick. For the last, fast section of the track, the visual is back to being set in Paris, France, where Kendrick represents for both Compton and the USA. Check it out. Enjoy
